How to Become an Owner

The Missoula Community Food Co-op is proud to be one of few working owner co-ops in the country. By keeping paid staff to a minimum, we can keep our prices low. When owners work together, we all share in the pride of ownership. It’s fun and rewarding to run a business with people in your community!

 

1.  You  become an owner at the Co-op. 
2.  Each member contributes in two ways, through membership fees and working one three-hour shift every 4 weeks.
 

Ownership fees are as follows:

  • Individual one-time ownership payment: $125, payable in installments as low as $5/month after an initial payment of $15.
  • Student or temporary resident ownership program: $25 annually. The annual amount must be paid all at once.
  • Reduced ownership program: $15 with proof of federal assistance (Food Stamps, WIC, TANF, Section 8, CHIP, etc.)
    • Proof of assistance must be renewed annually.
All owners must give three hours of their time every 4 weeks. No previous grocery or retail experience is necessarywe’ll train you! Positions include but are not limited to:
  • Cashiering
  • Stocking shelves
  • Taking care of produce
  • Doing maintenance
  • Sitting at the Owner Services Desk
  • Helping with office work/data entry
  • Filling a variety of other needs
